Bolton Landing is located halfway between New York City and Montreal, on the western shore of Lake George, a five or ten mile drive off the Northway, I-87. A tiny hamlet north of Albany and Saratoga, Bolton lies in an altogether different world. A picturesque bridge links our shoreline with the renowned and historic Sagamore Resort. Our store, Next Summer, is located at 4955 Lake Shore Drive, in the center of town, right next to the town hall.
Lake George is a deep blue spring fed Adirondack lake, brimming with history. When you’re on the lake, particularly in the narrows, it’s not too difficult to imagine a fleet of French Bateau, long boats filled with soldiers, paddling south during the French and Indian War to attack the British garrison at Fort William Henry. Over the years many famous artists have stayed in the rustic lodges and early hotels around Bolton while they painted the scenery around shelving rock and northwest bay, and in the 1930’s the Gold Cup Championship power boat races brought the world and their newsreel cameras here to Bolton Bay three years in a row.
Fur trappers, paper pulp barons, investment bankers, and inventors have shared the lake with actors, writers, tradesmen, and families up from the city to escape the heat. The soft July mornings and crisp August evenings are here for everyone. It’s a great place to live vicariously, basking in the wealth of others with none of the worries yourself. It’s the lake house life – even for those of us who only have lake access and seasonal views.
