about next summer
Matthew Slaughter, a land use attorney and graduate of the urban planning masters program at Cornell, left the practice of law when he decided it was no way to spend a life. As a result he became interested the life style choices we all make, and how we make them, and developed an interest in under-utilized properties in under–realized resorts. With his family, he bought and rehabbed a hundred year old hardware store in the heart of Bolton Landing on the shores of Lake George in the Adirondacks. Next Summer, a house wares, design, and lifestyle store opened for its first season in the spring of 2008. The shop promoted itself as a resource for second home owners as well as seasonal tourists, and capitalized on the area’s visitors natural affinity for lake shore living. The tag line for the business is “supplies for the lake house life”. The product mix at Next Summer, like the store’s name, is both nostalgic and optimistically forward-looking, urging people to create a lake house for themselves, regardless of where they live.
